secure UTH to PVC

Hey gals and guys

I have zoomed UTH on my PVC cages I've noticed they don't stick terribly well. Obviously the heat they generate impedes there ability to stick permanently. I was told before that they can't be reused. I had a second one on the side of the cage that didn't help my temps so I used it to double up on my BPs new cage. They aren't very wide so I have 2 of the XL so when he is full grown the hot spot is big enough. But I was able to take it off one cage and resecure it. It seems when mounted on the bottom, gravity and the weight of the cable pulls it off. Has anyone used hot glue to secure one to the bottom of a PVC cage?

Re: secure UTH to PVC

Run to your local home improvement store and get some aluminum tape and secure it that way. Something like this.

Great, I have that on the driveway. I'm an hvac mechanic. I've got an unlimited supply.

I use heat tape secured with duct tape.

Perfect! Haha, it's awesome when things work out like that.

Not a fan of duct tape for this. The adhesive is too strong if you need to move things around and it's tough to tear in enclosed spaces. To each their own though.

Re: secure UTH to PVC

Personally I think foil tape is better, designed to take high temps. Supply air temps can be 150f on some furnaces and obviously the sheet metal at the top of the heat exchanger is exposed to high heat. It will conduct heat away but still removable. Don't know why I didn't think of that before. I already peeled 1 UTH off a cage and reused it. Lucky for me with PVC it is possible. I made the hot spot on my BPs new cage big enough for when he is full grown.
