Smile Greetings!

Hello all. I stumbled upon this wonderful website an hour ago and already I've learned so much from a lot of the members. I currently own a Rosy Boa (Chili), an albino Sinaloan Milk (Sheldon), a striped flame Goini King (Salazaar), a Northern Ring neck (Skynyrd) and a Kenyan Sand Boa (Dr. Tickles). Recently I bought a 2yr old Black Mexican King from a reptile expo and wanted to mimic a semi-arid environment for her enclosure. I live by the Mississippi River and wanted to bring a few medium sized river rock home to use in the set up. Any methods for sterilizing the rocks?

Re: Greetings!

Hi, welcome! I think a good idea would be boil the rocks for some minutes, if you wanna avoid chemicals. Regards!

Re: Greetings!

Thank you everyone! I've read that ring necks are hard keepers in captivity but I've had my northern ring neck for a few years now. He's the most secretive snake I have so his environment has many hides and he's a ferocious eater. Here are some pictures, not sure how to attach more than one photo in a response. Happy new year everyone!

Re: Greetings!

Oh how funny you named your MBK Voodoo! That was ALMOST my girl's name! Lol I kicked that name around for nearly 2 weeks before settling on Calypso hehe.

So jelly of your ringneck though! Ive wanted one since I was a kid. I found one and tried to keep it but it dies mere days after I got it. I'm sure I did everything wrong for it though. I was all of 12 and had an anti-reptile mom. =/

Re: Greetings!

I entertained calypso, medusa and siren for her. So many name possibilities, one of the exciting parts about getting a new scaly friend. I've visited a few websites on how to care for ring necks and much of the feedback from people who have tried to keep them had to do with them dying after awhile so it's not just you.

Re: Greetings!

I agree about naming! It's one of the most important and fun things of any new addition, scaley or fuzzy lol.

And yeah, I read that recently how hard they are to keep going. You must depart your techniques upon me! Hehe.

Re: Greetings!

Honestly I think it's blind luck. I have quite a few hides, some on the heated side some on the cooler side and some in between including a moist hide filled with moss all on top of Eco earth substrate. I just feed him a few earth worms a week and rarely handle him, when I do he seems very calm. I'm sure there's more to it.
