My Columbia Red Tail Boa is very dark

my Columbia red tail boa is very dark.....she use to be very tan in color and black dots, etc. now her body is dark real dark. She shed about 3-4 weeks ago. Also i went through a move almost 2 months ago as well. She is always heated but not very much humid. I have had her for over 10 years. She is 7 or so feet in a 65 gallon tank, never had any issues, bedding, rock, large water bowl, etc. still seems active. Had her out the other night and she moved around, ate last week as well. She sometimes will lean all the way up from the bottom to the top covered with screen her body stretched out from top to bottom sometimes acting like she is going to fall over jokingly. I just have not seen her so dark. Any suggestions? she seems healthy, i have never taken her to a vet or anything and body doesn't appear to have any ticks, mites, etc. I'm new to this kind of forum. Never posted anything before.

Re: My Columbia Red Tail Boa is very dark

You might watch her for a few days or a week+....many boas have light & dark phases where their colors change on a temporary basis. It's quite normal...and one of the many interesting things our snake-pals do to mystify us. My bci is fairly dark and a little over 7' long (& 13 years old) Sometimes she is noticably lighter. Does your snake show much irridescence (that bluish-purplish shine) when in bright light (like in sunshine)? -that is considered to be a sign of good health. But don't worry about her color being darker.
BTW, I just joined this forum, so "Welcome!" from one new member to another.

Re: My Columbia Red Tail Boa is very dark

Yup. My male bci gets quite dark right before a shed. He is also about 7' but only about 5 yrs old. He can also get very light and his yellow and red in his tale very greatly too. It's like phases of the moon So don't worry. Should be fine.
