Kiln Fired.. ?

I was recently given a large 25lb. Bag of aspen shaving from a neighbor that had gotten rid of of their small animals. I was pretty excited about it because free stuff is always good. Upon receiving the shavings I discovered that they were kiln fired. I have never used kiln fired shavings before, and they have a very distinctive smokey smell. Could that be harmful to my reptiles?
