Help with sealant.

Hi all , so i have ordered the new viv today ,and is on its way !! . So can anyone tell me what is the best sealant i should use for the job . The last stuff i used dried like rubber , and i`am sure this also made the tank smell , when it came into contact with the snakes poo and what else ! The new viv stands at 3ft H x 2ft D x 4ft L , i will send some pics , when it is ready . Tracy.

I am trying to find the same thing. I want to use bamboo stocks for my chondro to rest on. And I don't want it to get moldy. So far I have found that polycrylic water based sealers are the safest. As long as you let air out for a long time (a week to two weeks). But, I have no experience using sealers. Maybe someone with experience could chime in!

Marine grade clear silicone. Worked great for me. What is your viv made from?

I assumed the op meant a joint sealer but a surface sealer ... I have no idea.

I`am just looking to seal the bottom of the tank , ( to protect from poo`s , etc ) the viv is made of plywood , really heavy . So am looking for something that will dry real solid .

You could use perspex then seal around the edges.

You can use a water based polyurethane. Give it a few coats and you should be fine for just that purpose. If you want it to be totally waterproofed and sealed hard then use an epoxy resin like they use for boat hulls. Its quite a bit more expensive but is a lot more durable and waterproof.

That sounds good , i dont mind the cost , if it keeps out the smell and wet . BTW i made a mistake , the box is made of target panel , not plywood .
