Feeder question!

Hey all! =D

My Sand Boa "Digger" (give me a break i was 8) has ALWAYS been on live fuzzys! Is there anyway I can ween him towards frozen? The place that I get my mice is far away and it would be alot easier to keep frozen mice!

Also another question my Snake will only eat once per month, is this normal?
Should I maybe go back to Pinkys and then feed him every 10 days?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Feeder question!

How old is Digger? And is he a male? Honestly, i would get f/t fuzzies, thaw them out, then heat them up real good, and place it in with digger, and leave it in with him. I would not go back to pinkies, i would stick with the fuzzies, if possible.

If digger is a male, and he's sexually mature, he may not have interest in feeding due to breeding season. just continue to offer meals once every 7-10 days..

Digger is 10 years old and a female, which I dont believe because he is tiny!

Wow!!! i would definitely say you have a male. A female of that age would be on jumbo mice ..........

I heat them up using a heat lamp, just put them under for a few minutes and you're good to go, or you could heat it up with a hair dryer..... make sure the head is really hot, to give the snake a good heat source to latch onto

Yeah I feel kind of cheated because "He" is so tiny ahah! Ill defiantly give it a try! Thanks again!

But even then how big are the males suppose to be I feel like he is way under-sized.

Re: Feeder question!

One fuzzy per month for an adult is not much. Have you tried larger prey items? It is possible that he is showing little interest because the prey is too small. If he only accepts nestling rodents (which some sand boas do) you may be able to switch him to pinky/fuzzy rats. I would try different things to get him eating more.

I have tried Larger he will kill it and wont eat! Im starting to get worried! Because he is way undersized! And everyone one at the Pet store is not interested in helping me!

My friends KSB gave birth to 8 babies, and they where all around 8-10 inches long mine is maybe at like 15 inches... And 10 years old.

Definitely sounds like digger is a male to me....... If he is sexually mature, which he is at 10 years old, his not eating is normal during this time of year. Do you know how much he weighs, by any chance? And if you are watching him while he is attempting to eat, it might be making him insecure....

Re: Feeder question!

Not to sound condescending, but are you sure about your husbandry? What are your temps etc...

I use a heat pad on one half of the tank. I just bought the tank, I have a cave, water dish, log, rock and a branch! He seems very comfortable in it too me!
