How to feed frozen? Urgent?

So I have fed live all my life ( no problems) but our stores don't sell live anymore. So how do u fed frozen? How long do you thaw the rat so it's 100 percent safe and are there any tricks to getting my snakes to eat it? They are both corn snakes.

Different ways of thawing frozen can be seen here

http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/food-...rey-items.html

I have only ever fed f/t so I am not sure how different it is for the snake for the fists few times or if they will just smell food and go for it. You can either use tongs or just hold the tail and just dangle the mouse by your snakes head. As soon as mine have smelt it they just lock on and then strike it. Some people have to do the zombie dance with the mouse but I would just see how it goes first.

Re: How to feed frozen? Urgent?

I leave my rats overnight, then leave them in a bowl on a warm radiator for five mi utes or so to give general warmth. Then as i M about to feed each rat i press its skull onto the radiator directly for ten seconds to really give the head a lot of heat.

Using tonges i the. Hold the rat by its scruff and "dance" it in front of the snake til it strikes

Re: How to feed frozen? Urgent?

I leave for 6 hours for small prey, longer as needed for larger prey... Dip the head in hot water for couple of seconds before feeding.. Wet rat/mouse smells more than a dry one so should entice a feeding response.. If he doesn't strike just place it ontop of a hide and leave over night.. Throw away in morning if its still there, don't try and re freeze it lol.

Corns are pretty good eaters and will usually accept anything put Infront of them. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Personally I would just throw it in and see if it will eat it. Its way simpler that way. Just make sure its thawed first.

Re: How to feed frozen? Urgent?

i thaw overnight at room temperature

then heat up with a hair dryer, giving the head an extra heat

i then grab the rats body from the back, the feeding tongs holding the last 2 thirds of its body

i then jiggle the rat around 5 to 8 inches away from the snakes face

you could also try braining the prey.....

after you heat the prey, pierce 3 or 4 holes in the skull with one side of a pair of scissors, until grey liquid seeps out the puncture holes, then give the head an extra heat and offer

cheers shaun

i usually hold the warmed up rat by the tail and do the zombie dance in front of my snakes until they strike it.

Thaw in warm water. Then soak in water at around 95-98 F for a couple min. Serve warm with tongs. I use this on our shirt tails and retics. It gives them a heat signature to lock on to. Wiggle it a bit too. Works like a charm for us.
