My dumerial boa

Hello! So below is a picture of my baby magenta. I bought magenta for my fiancees birthday several years ago and up to about 1 year ago he did the caring for her and i just cuddled her. Due to unforeseen circumstances i am now the care taker while he is away. i recently moved and because she is a growing snake i upgraded her home. I really need advice on if i set this up correctly and what else i need to provide to keep her happy in her larger roomier home. thanks in advance!!
Aspen bedding

Re: My dumerial boa

i would put a hide on the hot side and the cold side so she can choose where to hang out, other than that it looks fine to me :P

Re: My dumerial boa

Hello and welcome. So how old is she? What are the temps on the warm and cool sides of the cage? Also if you could cover about have the the top of the cage with like a damp towel this will help you keep the humidity up. Right now with it the way you have it the heat lamp is drying up what humidity that isn't escaping out the top. Also move the water bowl to the cool side of the cage or at least the middle. plus like Zac said i add another hide to the warm side.

What size food does she eat and how long is she? She seems small for that age. I have a two year old male that's easily double her size.

That's no problem. Just trying to get as much info as i can so i can give you the best advice.
Do you feed mice or rats? If mice you really should try to get her switched over to rats. They have less fat. You can also feed prey size a bit fatter than her mid section.

Re: My dumerial boa

That cage looks good but I would change a few things. First off, while Dums' humidity needs aren't as critical as some other species, if it's too dry, even for them, then what will happen is that you will have bad sheds. Two things you can do to prevent that from happening is cover that screen lid with something like Saran Wrap to keep the humidity you do have from escaping that tank. Plus, and this is even more important, I would get rid of the heat lamp, because it does tend to take the humidity out of the air, and I would use a heat pad for belly heat instead. Also the heat pad should be on one end with 2 hides; one on the warm end and the other on the cool eand. This way Magenta has a choice of where to go to thermoregulate herself. Other than that, your tank looks good.

Re: My dumerial boa

i used the same type of set up to start off with my dums. i changed everything around to use a 20l tank just like that. i switched out the bedding to repti bark/ eco earth and love it. i keep a pvc hide on hot and cool end. and a water bowl in the middle. on the screen top i have two wet dish towels and it keeps my humidity at 50-60% with one spray a day.

next week i get my pvc tank and cant wait tho.

as far as feeding i feed weened rats and she takes them just fine. she looks the same size as yours and puts on about 15-25 grams a month.

Re: My dumerial boa

i have my female dum in a tank with screen lids. i recently covered 1 side with tape just to keep some humidity in but she always had nice sheds even before i covered it. i run a 100w CHE in the tank as well. i use a mixture of repti bark and eco earth.
