Fiberglass Resin

Hello, I am building my bearded dragon a very nice large cage. The background is made out of foam and their are removable ledges and it is very nice. After I am done grouting and painting I need something to seal it with. I have had a devil of a time trying to find something. I heard somebody mentioning fiberglass resin on here to seal cages and was wondering if it would work in my case. I am very worried about off gas. What do you guys think? What are your guys experience with it? Thanks!

In my experience fiberglass resin like most 2 part epoxy is safe after the out gassing is done about 3-4 days but I would say at least 2-3 weeks of cure time to be 100%. Also I would make sure it is mixed really well so none of the resin or hardener is left unmixed. From what i know If you can still smell it it is still out gassing.

Crocdoc built a monitor cage with it 13 years ago, it's still in use, and still looks great.

Just make sure you do it outside and work very quickly. Nothing like the smell of styrene in the morning lol.

I will definitely do it outside. I live in So Cal I do everything outside lol.

Do you guys think it will be shiny?

Yes, it cures shiny..

If you want, throw some sand on it before it dries. It will give it a cool texture if that is what you are looking for.

Man.. Is their anything I could do to make it un shiny? I know you can sprinkle colored sand on their but I do not want to have to do that.
