How to remove a thrashing lizard from its enclosure

How do I do this? lol

I needed to remove my tegu from his cage to add some sand to the soil and rearrange his home. He wouldn't have any of it. I tried very slowly coaxing him onto my hand which worked until I lifted him (slowly) and he thrashed like mad. I don't want to stress him with any type of handling but I needed him out. How should I approach this for next time?

In an emergency I just throw a towel over the lizard and scoop them up that way. Obviously this isn't an emergency, so I would say lure him with food into a box.

I have no advice for you since I've never dealt with a tegu, but let us know how you do it so others can know for future reference

Luring with food isn't an option. He refuses to tong feed and isn't much of an eater in general. He'll only eat if I'm not in the room and only if he feels like it.

It's a good idea but my tegu is a stubborn jerk. lol

I deal with this enough, Cera hates getting picked up, but sometimes I have to.

A quick scoop and get it over with fast is all I can offer.

I guess that's the best bet.

Quickly with the minimum of fuss, to much faffing around will just stress the poor guy out even further
