Planning for pets care in Will
Out of curiosity I was wondering how many folks here have made arrangements for the care of their animals in the event of their passing. Most of my bird friends have had to really look at this hard due to the age most parrots live to. Many have taken life insurance policies to provide for the birds care for the rest of their lives whether in a sanctuary or by a relative. Some like me have added them in the will with a certain amount of money being left from the policy just for her care. Just curious

All of my animals are provided for in our will, short and long lived. Ya never know when the hammer will drop.

Re: Planning for pets care in Will
I know that my boas can live up to 30 years, my bird could live another 15 to 20 years, my dogs probably only about 10 left in them and my CWD/Monitor could live up in the 15 to 30 year range so I made sure they are all provided for with members in my family.

Re: Planning for pets care in Will
I've thought about it briefly, but I haven't really done anything about it. Guess I probably should, even though I'm only 21. One of the reasons I haven't killed myself. What would my pets do without me? XD

Re: Planning for pets care in Will
all my animals are provided for in my will, always have been. I refuse for them to go into rescue just because I didn't spend an extra 1/2 hr on the will making process!!

I should have my dog mounted. It'll be a great deal easier than digging his hole

Re: Planning for pets care in Will
I've made verbal agreements with my family that they would care for them should I go, since I haven't finalized a will yet.

Re: Planning for pets care in Will
I dont have a will so have made no preparations but the dof would go to my parents and the snakes would be sold back to the Reptile shop to pay for funeral expenses.

Re: Planning for pets care in Will
When I go my son will keep Cassie. If he is unable to care for her then $10,000 of the policy would go with her to NEEWS. There I know that she would be placed in a good home where the sanctuary would monitor her or she would live out her life in the sanctuary. There are three people who want Precious so he would be well cared for also.
Lankyrob you're lucky that the pet shop will purchase them back. There is a reptile shop in RI that tells people who purchase alligators there that when they get too big they will buy them back. They don't adding to the release of animals in the wild. Up here in New England the animals die over winter, so sad.

What if they release them in the spring then you guys will have a bunch of big gators terrorizing your waters over the summer. I'd report them to the DNR if I were you. They don't have to sell gators.
