There is very few to little information on the housing requirements,to temps on them...My fiance wants to buy me one since i came across monitors i have been hooked on these fascinating reptiles.My concern i never had a monitor have experience with many reptiles.It's gonna be a subadult male from what i was told.Help me & see if i'm doing all this right please.I have build an enclosure it's 6ft long,34inches wide,34 inches high,with 6 inches of substrate half way,of the bottom of the enclosure the other bottom half has 20 inches of substrate.Is this enclosure proper size to house him?What are the humidity requirements & basking to ambient temps should i set it?

Where are you getting a Kim from? Very few have had success so a good breeder would be a place to start. I can suggest one that would guide on how to perfectly raise one. Kims should have a 6x3x6 (LxWxH). They are aboreal and would use the extra height. Basking temps would range between 120-150F. Sandy dirt. I'll shoot you a pm.

125f to 150f basking spot

hot end 90f

Cool end 80f

humidity 60%

good deep substrate sand/soil mix.

Lots to climb on and your away

im surprised most keepers over here dont seem to have any major issues from what i can tell?

USA has had many issues with kims. They were weak hatchlings and dwindled into low numbers until recently. Krusty got some from Art (I think) and raised up a few and got a good group and has done well with them since. I think rare earth has some here and there.still not to many around and about though.

Similar situation with pilbs over here.

We can't seem do get pils ironed out at all. Most remaining are old for odataria and few people with any success seem to get infertile clutches or weak hatchlings that die soon. I want some pils but its probably going to take importing some from Germany and getting fresh blood.
