New Hog Island Boa
My new hog island came last Wednesday and it is beautiful.l It ate on Sunday[two large mice] and he has a very good feeding response. Pics will come tomorrow because I want to be certain he has digested and not in feeding mode. Out of the box he was very defensive and has stayed that way since, do you think he is still stressed from being shipped across the U.S? Damn just forgot to put this in my hog Island boa thread. It is small but I found this picture of the snake on the breeders website.

Re: New Hog Island Boa
Congrats Snakeman! Can't really see the pic, but he looks good! I think once he settles down he won't be so defensive. He'll definitely needs some time to adjust though. How old is he?

Re: New Hog Island Boa
if its from desert moon where i got my male , he will settle down after 1 week. When i took mine out of the box he was stressed and a little aggressive , after a week being left alone he was nice but only after he was out of the tub for about 5 minutes . the breeder told me she did not handle them very much , only before feeding. I let me guy destress and handled him for about 15 minutes every other day so he got used to my smell/taste. Just remember temps should be a little cooler for hogs , i keep mine at 89 on the warm side and 75 on the cool side and 65% humidity. Mine likes to climb and uses both hides , he is 36 inches and about 300 grams now . I did feed him adult mice as the breeder did for the first 3 feeding but he took a weanling rat first time i offered it so thats what he gets now every 12 days or so. give him a week to relax , keep him on mice for a few feedings then get him on rats. Mine has hissed at me if i grab him too fast from the tub before he wakes up all the way but once he is out he is great and like to explore but he has a superman grip when i go to put him back in the tub so have to be gentle .

Re: New Hog Island Boa
He's very pretty!! Good snag! Most breeders will recommend to not feed or handle for at least a El after shipping. Most breeders have a lot of snakes and can't/wont handle everybody. Lord knows since my numbers have gone up my strike attempts have gone up LOL not by much though since Boas are just awesome!

Re: New Hog Island Boa
Yeah he is from desert moon. His temps are 87 to 89 warm side 75 to 77 cool side and humidity is 60 to 70 percent. He hasn't struck at me but he has given me some loud hissing. It hasn't even been a week so I will give him some alone time. Jay I have noticed the same thing on this forum, they are wonderful snakes to keep.

Re: New Hog Island Boa
I can barely make out the pic, but it looks very good! A Hog Island boa is definitely on my list of snakes to get. Make sure to keep updating us.

Re: New Hog Island Boa
Ok I lost my memory card for my camera and my phone takes horrendous pictures. So I got this pic from the breeder. [Joanne Burroughs]
