can snakes ACTULLAY learn any tricks or is it just the way the snake does something, that we think its a amazing trick........

Snakes can be conditioned (such as to take dead prey items or be handled), but not trained to do "tricks" like a cat or dog. Snakes operate on pure instinct. They are also not social animals and do not appreciate our company, if they seem to enjoy us we have to think in terms of the snake and assume it is for security (hiding in a sleeve) or warmth (our body heat). They do not have the same feelings as we do and whenever people forget that is when accidents happen. People anthromophize faaaaaarrr too often with these animals. Take care...

... but I do think that the snakes develop 'habits' for want of a better word.

I always remind myself that no matter how much I talk to them (grins sheepishly), they won't hear or understand - I'm just 'somewhere warm', 'source of dinner' or 'dark hide', depending on what they want.

Despite this (or maybe because of it?) I am actually constantly in awe of the fact that these beautiful creatures give me ANY attention, and I accept it with gratitude.

Their intellectual powers may not be... um... the sharpest, but their instinctive powers are a source of amazement for me.

I realized that no matter how much I care, they don't seem to care at all. This point is proven every time I change my colubrids cages, as within 5 minutes....they all have huge craps. *L*

I can tell you all animals do love back. for instance.. if you hurt ur snakes, they will hiss at u adn such from then on .. if u give it good care, they will let u handle them and play with them .. no they won't kiss you.. but they will let u have the privelege of their time... which would other wise be taking up by $h1tt1ng and eating vermin ..hmmmm lol

In my opinion we dont/cant really understand what a snake is thinking/feeling. So how do we know if he/she wants to be held or likes to be with us? All we can really do is judge their actions. If they hiss they probably dont want to be played with, if they are roaming they may want food, if they are always in their warm/cool spot they probably need more/less heat etc. Its hard to tell what snakes, or any animal except maybe humans, are feeling you just have to go by what kind of actions or reactions they present to us. Again my opinion.
