"Rescued" toad from back yard
lol
So, hubby found him in our back "yard"...a 10ft square concrete area, with some potted plants we have.
I have no idea if one of the dogs got to him or he came in from under the fence from somewhere.
Either way, we felt sorry for him so he lives inside now, and has happily settled in to eat crickets at his leisure.
We call him "ugly toad".
It looks like he's had an old injury, or like, a stroke or something...maybe he was squished. Anyway, it's just a saggy eye and lip...but he eats and poos just fine! lol
He's far away from everyone else in the house, and doing well. Just a silly poor lil thing!

He hunts crickets in his moss all day, and then falls asleep.
He's noticeably fatter already. lol
Hubby was like "look what i found, let's keep him!" and i'm like, no it's just a toad...lol but then i saw he was hurt so weather new injury or old, he can live out his life being fat on crickets and safe : )

I hate to be "that guy", but how is keeping a wild animal in captivity for the rest of it's life "rescueing" it? Sounds more like imprisonment to me.

i know, i know "that guy". I figure he's got a lessened change of survival out there with one eye. He seems pretty okay with his imprisonment so far. Eating and pooing away and getting fat.
I always have mixed feelings about situations like this. I try to call it on a case by case basis.
If he was freaking out, or not eating, i'd let him back out somewhere. He seems pretty content though, so *shrug*

Who cares. Better to be kept in a terrarium because you got hurt, and be fed crickets than to be speared by a birds beek

He is adorable! I too, am not really big on keeping wild animals that were found outside, but in the case of an injury that would likely cause death or predation if the animal were to remain in the wild, I think it can be better to keep them. Best of luck with him- toads are awesome!

lol mykee says he doesn't want to be "that guy" but...he does...LOL
Temp ranges from 70 to 80 during the day, 65 at night. I have him set up near the fish lights. All the other critters are upstairs, so he's away from them for now.
He's got some moist moss, and a dry spot to climb out of it, and a water dish big enough to get inside. He chases crickets, and burrows in the moss. He's started to come out and sit on the moss and watch us. I think he's learned to beg *lol* seems like all animals are good at that!
