Is my Goini getting overweight?
So when we bought KJ he was being fed a "maintenance" diet of 1 adult mouse every 10 days. He always seemed a bit to placid for a king to me. Well I decided to up his food size after we had him a few months. To my suprise he took a small rat almost double the size of the mice before that. Well he became more active and actualy sits in the warm hide now. Completely different snake now. But I do worry about him getting fat. He will never refuse a meal and has the feeding responce of a retic. Lol. So I had him out for a spot clean today and snapped a shot in a holding tub. Is he fat or just thickening now that he is being fed instead of teased? Its easier for me to judge my Boas or carpets but I am not 100% on KJ so I thought I would get your oppinions thanks!!

Re: Is my Goini getting overweight?
He doesn't look to fat to me. I'm not a pro on this particular species but, I know ALOT of kings go off feed for a few months out of the year as they mature. I feed both my kings heavily throughout the year to compensate for those few months that they go off feed. Just my .02

Re: Is my Goini getting overweight?
Every feed since Christmas. He has thickened quite a bit but I think he was light. That's another thing I hate about the snake trade. People who feed only enough to survive-bare minimum. Not cool from my standpoint.

Re: Is my Goini getting overweight?
I agree. They should be fed on a schedule that's more then the bare minimums..

Re: Is my Goini getting overweight?
He looks a little rounder than I'd expect a king to be, but nothing that stands out to me. He looks fine

Re: Is my Goini getting overweight?
He looks a little bit bigger than others from what I can see, but I wouldn't worry too much.

Re: Is my Goini getting overweight?
Looks like a great, healthy getula from the southeast.....
Goini, meansi, getula getula, brooksi and floridana are rather robust kingsnakes that topple 5 feet......sometimes more.......

Re: Is my Goini getting overweight?
He is about 42-45" and doesn't seem to be growing anymore. Sheds about every 4 months. Fairly docile King other than food related things. Normal King behavior
