Why take the risk?

Hello all,

I have been thinking about dealing with hots for quite a while and I have always come to the response that it is not worth the risk.. that your playing or even facing death ..

Now this leads me to wonder the WHY someone would .. Is it really worth it? I can see "why" in educational purpose or zoo's or even venom bank but "why" on a personal basis or even for a breeder?

Honestly, I am asking this as I have decided recently to venture in hots for work purposes .. not for personal collection and wanted others inputs on this?

lol first time ever I post a new thread in this forum! lol

Any input would be greatly appreciated,
Dom

Dom, I can't really answer that in terms of personal reasons, because I use them for venom production and import/export. I'm not so sure that I would own one if they did not make me the money they make me. I agree with you, it's not worth the risk.
Blessings

Again, I use them for envenomation training. But I got into hots before that naturally. It is hard to explain, it is just something that drew me too it. I consider it an honor to get to work with some of the greatest predators on the planet. But why take the risk? Why do Police and Firemen risk their lives everyday? It aint cause of the paycheck! They do it because it is something they feel they need to do. That it is the right path for them. I guess that is the best I can explain it without rambling for 5 pages

Country:
i think anyone that works with hots get the same question all the time. I think it is because they truely are unique and as long as you are responsible with it, the risks can be cut down alot.

Some people just have such a passion for some species and it overcomes the risks you may have to take.

What if it was dangerous to keep all the Monitors you keep Don??LOL

I suspect that you get such enjoyment and reward out of working with them, that you might still do it...correct?

Anyways, i agree with the concept, maybe its not worth the risk, but as long as it is done with resposibility I cant agrue with it!

....as long as your handling and housing methods DONT put others in danger as well

I find myself very attracted to some species of snakes. I enjoy them for their beauty, and some for their way of life and personalities. Some of these snakes just happen to be venomous and I just find that to be one more challange in keeping them in a captive environment. The point that I am trying to make is that I keep them because of reasons other than their being venomous. I feel that someone should keep what they like as long as the risks to themselves and others is kept at a minimum.
