Comparing Blue and Bubbles

Last night Blue gave me a couple of interesting opportunities to compare him to shots of Bubbles I've recently taken. Enjoy!

Bubbles on top of Tanner's tank

Blue on the same tank

Yeah...bit of a difference there, and I'm not talkin' about colour

Bubbles on my lap

Blue on my lap

Mmhmm...bit of a difference there too

Bubbie's face

Blue's face

Not too much of a difference there, but that's to be expected.

Now what kind of proud father would I be if I didn't share, lol. There will be some Boom-Boom pics coming in another week or so. She is, of course, moulting *again*, lol.

Re: Comparing Blue and Bubbles

Great comparison shots! I love blue's pretty much blue head, and Bubbles is getting soo vibrant now, he sides can be used as traffic markers! Amazing what 5-6 years can make for a difference in maturity face wise. Love seeing that side by side. Caylan.S.

Re: Comparing Blue and Bubbles

There are 7 years between them, but I think wee Bubba is going to outgrow Blue by quite a bit. Blue came from very small (and angry) parents and never got as big as I hoped, but Bubbie is ready to step into his shoes when the day comes

Re: Comparing Blue and Bubbles

blue is wider which makes sense because he's older but I agree Bubs is catching up fast. Though I love Blue's dark red, I gotta love the high yellow sides on Bubba

Re: Comparing Blue and Bubbles

I'm curious, what draws you to the more heavily bodied, easily angered bloods?

Ah, good question, but let's clear-up a misconception first; they're not as aggressive as they are insecure. People who don't understand the insecurity of these animals and the reaction they have to that insecurity are the ones mislabelling and misinterpreting Bloods as aggressive. The people that do understand Bloods will tell you that they're just moody and will rarely have any problems, if ever

Blue doesn't really have an aggressive bone in his body, but he does frighten very easily and is prone to startling himself, which can put him in a defensive mode, although he rarely defends and prefers to retreat unless he's has a really bad scare. Bubbles isn't really aggressive either, but he's much more bold than Blue and can be quick to defend himself from perceived threats.

The thing that attracts me to them is that they provide me with a constant challenge and they require a really deep understanding to successfully keep them happy and without incident.

I've been keeping boids for very near a quarter century now and most herps no longer provide me with the challenge I need to keep myself happy. Most are really just work to me at this point. I do really enjoy everything I have, but most just don't require the level of understanding and commitment that the Bloods require.

Over the years I've done the Burmese thing, the Retic thing, the Anaconda thing, the Monitor thing and so on, but even back then I knew I was working towards a Blood for the challenge and the sheer enjoyment of being able to interact with one.

Blue's 10 anniversary with me passed just 2 weeks ago and I can still sit there and marvel at the fact that I have him - it took me a full 15 years to find a Canadian-bred brong because there were just so very few being kept back then, so that helps raise my appreciation of them. It doesn't hurt that they're so impressive to see, either, lol. Those colours and patterns really are unlike any other snake, so I find them quite unique among boids.

I hope my ramblings have answered your question

Re: Comparing Blue and Bubbles

Is it just me or is bubbles' tail longer then blues? Definitely more black! I still love the contrast between the two, imagine if they were opposite genders...

I like the differences in their eyes. You can tell which snake is more prone to having cranky days LOL

Re: Comparing Blue and Bubbles

Caylan - Bubbie does have a really long tail, but it's clear that he's from much larger stock than Blue is; that's been clear since day one, actually. Blue also has a long tail, but he's much more slender than Bubbles so it doesn't stand-out as much.

Even if they were opposite sexes, they wouldn't get the change to mate unless the elite among the Canadian Blood community (you know who you are) stepped-up and committed to taking *all* the offspring. There is zero interest in Bloods in the Capital Region and I wouldn't pass one of those to just anybody - proven skill and understanding would have to be long established to be considered as a perspective candidate.

SerpentLust - I figured you'd pick-up on that eye thing, lol.

Haha of course I would. It's my favourite part of bloods, they're so easily read if you know what to read.

And had I have been following this thread more closely I would have put up the long winded aggression vs. insecurity thing, but you did a good job of it haha So I'll just let it slide
