im getting a durmil boa a quick question
the reptile shop ive been going to for years he just got in some 4-8 month old baby durmil boa's in and there going for 100 buck on Friday when i go and get one and i held a few of them and there calm very calm i use aspen bedding for all of my snake's i know durmil requires some what more higher humidity. So what would be a better choice? i think aspen bedding molds pretty easily when misted

Re: im getting a durmil boa a quick question
I use Eco-Earth for most of my boas, but I must confess I don't have a Dumeril's (although I would love to!) Don't take my answer until it has been confirmed or proven incorrect by somebody who actually keeps them.

Reptile bark is what i use for my Dumeril. You'll want to make it deep enough it can burrow. Mine always under the bark with his nose sticking out like Anacondas do when in water. What kind of cage do you have set up? Plastic totes work great they help hold humidity really good. Any other questions just ask. P.S. Don't forget pictures when you get one.

What nice about the Reptile Bark is it can be bleached and reuse. It tells how to do it right on the bag. As for mites i used it for years and have never had any. (knock on wood)

If you absolutely had to house 2 snakes together, one male and one female during breeding season would be the way to do it but that needs to be temporary. Last year, after 6 months of being together, Popeye (9 yr old Dum male) being the relentless breeder that he is finally locked up with Black Betty (9 yr old Dum female). After that, he wanted even more of it but Betty was not having it. She attacked him a few days later by constricting him. Needless to say, those 2 will not get together again. Anyway, right now, because of lack of tub space, Gandalf the Grey (3 yr old Dum male) and Arwen (4 yr old Dum female) are having to share a tub. They seem to be getting along just fine but again, this is only temporary until I can score another rack.
