Nice little s. o. occipitomaculata

Found this little red bellied snake when I was mowing the lawn. As you can see they are one of the best colored snakes out there. Enjoy, I know I did. (Right after that last pic he struck at me, you can see he was getting into the striking pose)

I'm so jealous of you guys that have quick access to places like this. We used to but the fields are now housing developments. Closest place to go would be about a mile away, not bad, but filled with super tall prairie grass that's tough to walk through (and possibly private land).

Cool find. we did those before. their cousin the Dekayi snake is much easier to keep as a pet.

The babies are so tiny though.

Found another of these guys today! In the same spot too, but it's not the same one. (different markings) Unfortunately my mom failed to get a pic of the belly which was more of an orange tint rather than a red on the first snake.
