I love my ball python...
He's cool, he's awesome, he's my little buddy......But he's such an idiot.
It typically takes him about 40 minutes to eat a mouse, no matter what size it is. He spends about 15 minutes killing it(it's f/t). Tries eating it sideways, gets frustrated, lets go. Spends another 15 minutes re-killing it after I get it faced the right way. Even if I get it lined up head first, it usually ends up being swallowed butt first.
This time he decided to gnaw on the tail for awhile.
Is it a ball python thing or did I just end up with a doofy snake?

Re: I love my ball python...
lol, i'd say he's just a little doofy
my ball python kills his live prey almost instantly (whenever he gets one) and eats in like 10-15 minutes usually. he eats f/t also and i usually have to leave the f/t in his viv overnight. i bet if i teased him and really got him interested he might get it but i jsut put him in the box i feed him in with the prey and leave him alone. sometimes he crawls out without eating the f/t so i just put it in his viv and its gone by morning.

Re: I love my ball python...
Lol!!! That's so cute! I love my sweet lil Sneezy, he's such a character. He never stops prancing and gallavanting around his tank, climbing on everything. He's a champ at eating though, takes 15 minutes to kill and finish swallowing. He's so awesome, and a bit of a weirdo, just like all my other critters I'm actually watching him shed right now as I type

Re: I love my ball python...
My BP is a freaking machine, he hits hard head first every time, scarfs it down fast and wants more.
He eats medium size rats.

Re: I love my ball python...
Is it normal for my BP to not poop for a week and then have a huuuuuuge monster sized poop?? All brown poo and then a few big white ones. Normal? Not normal?
A picture of my 'snake skin belt' :P

My oldest BP takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to finish his meal. I also have a couple that eat within 5-10 minutes. Some are just more gifted than others!

Re: I love my ball python...
Ok, thanks. It still shocks me to see snake poop the same size as my dogs poo! Sneezy has pooped in the same spot every time since I've had him, right in a corner, and always poops when I'm at home. Its pretty entertaining to hear about others' snake's different habits and quirks.

Re: I love my ball python...
One of my old retics NEVER pooped in his viv, he would poop on the floor/bathtub/beds anywhere but his viv... it was always spotless lol. Only spilled his water a handful of times.

Re: I love my ball python...
My corn likes to poop on me. He is an odd guy. He also takes a drink everytime I take him out. When I hold him near his water and he puts his head in and takes a drink. He tends to wait till I'm not paying him much attention then let's it fly. I hope he grows out of it, as he is not even a year.

I think all snakes are a little odd. My boyfriend's carpet likes to kill his food upside down too. I thought he was going to fall out of his tree last time, he looked similar to yours. Lol, he does everything in his tree. Eats in his tree, poops in his tree, drinks in his tree...Still not sure how that works for him. The beast defies gravity.

Meshy's on the go all night in his tank. Before I got him something to climb on, he would wrap himself around the thermometer and fall off in a ball, over and over. I heard a clunk every 5 minutes. I blame the idiocy on him coming from a chain pet store. He's still my little buddy though, when he's not in shed, I usually have him out sitting on my lap or exploring.
He wanted to help me with Statistics homework-

For some reason mine always grabs it by the side. After killing, he'll chew on it, poke at it, stretch it, twist it, do everything to it before eating it. It's like he has built up anger issues or something haha.

Mine goes about a week and a half to two weeks without pooping usually. Not complaining, makes keeping the tank clean much easier. My milk snake seems to go every chance she gets, especially if I just get done cleaning it...I think she does it on purpose.

My milk does the same with me. Just with me though, she has never pooped on anyone else.

just leave it alone after it first constricts and starts searching for the head and you will cut your feeding time in half.
