Breeding at Living Gems Reptiles seems to be going well.
In the Vlad-Topaz pairing, Vlad took a little while to “warm up” -- partly fueled by Topaz, who made it clear she wanted *nothing* to do with this strange new snake at first. How’s sleeping like this for a hint to a suitor?
(She actually had both it and her head farther out of the hide, but pulled back when she saw the camera.)
Then we realized that poor Vlad was only shy, and just wanted some privacy before he started his courtin’. Add one folding screen to block the cage front, and within just a day or two we got this:
Note that Topaz was in heavy shed when that picture was taken, and even Vlad was looking a bit dull.
So here is a final post-shed shot, one that captures the intense colors of these two adults very well:
