mine is very sweet. sometimes i can tell when he'd rather be solitary and hide (but that's kind of all snakes)
i've heard they can stress easy and become finicky eaters, but mine eats like a champ. he hasn't been interested in food the last month or so because its kind of mating season. but he is as sweet as can be. never hissed or struck at me or anything like that.
very nice snake.

Re: Do you need a license?

i'm sure every snake has it's own personality regardless if it's the same breed as it's counterpart. i'm sure there are angry mean dumerils out there but mine is as sweet as can be, and loves to be held and cruise around. heres a few sites i looked at before i adopted the dumerils. and it says in MULTIPLE articles that they are a very shy snake, so aquariums are bad because they are clear everywhere, and it also says to give them multiple hides to remain unstressed. i just have mine with a hide on the hot side, hide on the cold side and a water bowl in a custom viv.

Dumeril's boa care sheet - care and husbandry of the Dumerils boa | Boa Care

How to build enclosures for reptiles - custom snake cages - arboreal snake cages - snake keeping cage info - homemade reptile cages

Dumeril's boa page - information about Dumeril boas, Dumeril boa pets, Dumerili, Acrantophis dumerili

Dumerils Boa Care Sheet

this is what my snake used to live in

this is what he has now

he seems a lot happier in his new viv.

Re: Do you need a license?

Some cities and towns have local bylaws regarding pets, however, I don't believe there are any restrictions on or need to license Dumeril's Boas anywhere in Canada.

Both my little ones are quite docile and I've heard from a lot of Dumeril's keepers that they are very calm as adults as well, though of course there is always the exception.

This is Johann. He was born last year and is almost 100 grams.
We picked him up from Henry Piorun.

And this is Sebastian. He was born in 2009 and is almost 200 grams.
The breeder we got him from is no longer working with Dumeril's Boas.

Re: Do you need a license?

i'd love to get a female at some point and start litters of dums.
i'm pretty sure my male is JUST about ready. i recently switched from the 75 watt red bulb i had in (to kind of simulate winter) and i switched it out for the 100 watt. and now he's like "yea springtime baby!!" lol
he has been super active lately and hasn't eatin in over a month. i think i know what he has on his mind

Gotta love Texas, where you can own just about anything without a permit. Its freaking great. I know I enjoy that privilege...or would if I had the space.
