Freezer burnt pinkies - quality control?
As I thawed out the pinkies I got from the petstore, I noticed there are freezer burnt spots and the little legs and tsils are white or broken off. Is this acceptable or worth mentioning? Snake eats'em OK, am I just going to annoy people with this?

Re: Freezer burnt pinkies - quality control?
Frozen pinkies are...brittle to say the least. It's my opinion, that they shouldn't be frozen as long due to the fact that there is so little there to begin with. It's not unusual when you get to the bottom of a bag of frozen pinkies to find legs and tails and such.

If they're freezer burnt i throw them out. I wouldn't eat anything freezer burnt so i wouldn't make my snake either.

Re: Freezer burnt pinkies - quality control?
were these the "gourmet rodent" brand or loose pinks?
It's probably the pet stores fault, I go through hundreds of pinkies every month, and I have never received freezer burnt pinks from rodent pro.

Toss 'em and but more importantly, find a new supplier. It means they've been in a freezer far too long and packaged incorrectly.

Re: Freezer burnt pinkies - quality control?
You can't tell by the limbs being broken off. I've gotten backs of pinks from rodentpro, and when I'm done dividing them into portion packs I've got a bunch of tails and feet at the bottom of the bag, and they supposedly kill rodents fresh when you order them.
My advice is to just check them out in the store before you purchase them, and turn em down (and explain why) if they're freezer burnt.

Re: Freezer burnt pinkies - quality control?
Thanks for the tips, gang. I thought it was a little iffy to get 'em that way. I don't mind the little pieces so much as the freezerburn.

Re: Freezer burnt pinkies - quality control?
is the freezer burn bad for them cause at the end of a rodent cycle i end up with a few with a bit of freezer burn and they eat them just fine but i dont want to be hurting them
