Some BRB questions I would love to get answered.....

How fast do BRBs grow? Mine is almost 24 inches and was wondering how old roughly he is? and how big he will be in a year? Also how active are they supposed to be at night??? He is always hiding and rarely comes out of his hide box? Humidity and temp is good....

Any Help Appreciated

How long have you had him? If he is a new snake, he will likely hide quite a bit for the first couple weeks.
I don't have a BRB so I can't answer your other questions, sorry.

I don't think they grow all that quickly. I have a 2 year old Central American boa and a 1.5 year old Colombian boa and both are about 4 feet. The Colombian I've had about 6 months and he has grown a bit, maybe about a foot, but not as fast as a retic or burm would grow. I think they take 3-4 years to reach 8 feet or so, but not sure. I have the space and am fully prepared for them to be full-size, but they seem to be taking their time.

Re: Some BRB questions I would love to get answered.....

My BRB is a little over 3 feet and i've had her a year in January. Is it a male or female? females will usually grow bigger than males but im not sure if they grow faster or not. My BRB will be a year old her in a month or two so yours is probably 6 months or so. they stay really really skinny though till they reach full size then they tend to fill out to about the width of a full size rat. Mine will be out for a week or more every night and then i wont see it at all for a week. so ya that is normal. mine also comes out really really late most nights when it knows no one is around or awake. humidity needs to be as close to 100% relative as it can be without making the cage soggy. you only need to keep the humidity that high for about a year then you can back it down to 90% and then when full grown it can drop as low as 75% or so. but the higher the humidity the better. I also keep my BRB at 82-86 degrees F. it fluctuates a little based on night and day and im waiting to hook my new thermostat up till i finish my cage. But back to size you really need to measure the next shed it wont give you an exact size but it will give you an approximate one and it will show you just how long your snake is. mine doesnt look over 2 feet in the cage but when you get her stretched out she is a whole lot bigger!!

Ack, for some reason I misread the title of this thread and thought he was asking about red-tails not rainbows. I have a Peruvian rainbow boa, basically similar to the BRB, except a longer, pointier nose and brighter pattern in general. My PRB is a yearling and already 3 feet long and fairly thick. I think the rainbows tend to grow rather quickly, but will only get about as long as a ball python" 5-6 feet.

Re: Some BRB questions I would love to get answered.....

thanks for the help guys....

i measured her and she is 20.5 inches. temp is 85 on warm side during day and 80 on cold side. night drops to about 70 on cold side. i dont know how to keep the humidity at 100%. mine reads about 70 and i can never get it higher. i think its not working because it wont go higher than that not even if i keep spraying in the tub. i have a sphagnum moss and aspen snake bedding mixture. i have wet hide box that has just the moss that is always soaked. and its all it a sterlite tub with the lid on with a few holes. i think she is fine. she left a shed and defecated 3 days ago. looks good and she is still eating.

Should be ok. They can use more space than a BP, as they tend to be more active. I have my roughly 3-foot PRB in a 39 gallon pentagonal tank with a plexi and screen lid and misting system.

mine who is just now around a year old will be moving into a 450 gallon cage im in the middle of building so ya they can use a lot of space if you have it to give to them.

One of my brb's is just over 2 years old,and is an easy 6" long and he is a male, both have homade enclosures i made, and there is 2 2" vents for air and a giant water tub under a pro products radiant heat panel and both are growing like weeds. 2 seperate cages, but both built the same ,humidity is always 100 % buried, both are thick and my male is older and longer.just have to watch for mold with the higher humidity,im always cleaning.
