humidity and other questions

ok i bought a misting bottle for dremora's cage and for dremora. how should i use it? should i just spray inside the cage? or should i just spray inside the hide with the moss and the snake..i am kinda leery about getting it too humid cause its kinda cool in dremoras tank at the moment..but dremora looks kinda dry..i just dont want it to get sick..i say it cause we havent gotten it sexed yet.i get paid on tuesday so tuesday or wed. i am gonna go to the petstore and buy a heat lamp. right now the tank is on an endtable in the living room since my room stays kinda cool. mom put the table lamp right next to the cage so the little heat it gives off goes into the tank..but it dont give off alot of heat...the pet shop said they have a bulb that would fit the lamp and put off the heat but moms afraid it will ruin the lampshade if it getts too hot! i will also buy a thing to tell what the temp is in the tank and humidity. the book i got says i should use a tank with a sliding top but we just have the lid that the petshop gave us..but mom make me put 3 bricks on top , one on each end and one in the middle..to keep dremora from being able to escape. i am also confused about what the book says about not holding my pet but once a week. dreamora acts like it loves to be held and it eats great. why would it say only hold it once a week? also we are gonna buy some mite medicine and treat dremora even tho it looks healthy and i dont see any mites. but mom put a branch in the tank when we first got it and the pet shop said it may get mites from it or it may already have them from being at the breeders before they got it...i also have to find a vet that does snakes so i can take dremora in and have it checked for internal parasites. i was advised by teh pet shop that i should put the branch in the tub and hold it down with a brick for 24 hours to kill any mites or stuff on it. to treat the snake cause it wont hurt it and change all the bedding and stuff out before i put it in the cage again..what about the moss? will i need to buy more? any input will help me! thanks again!

spray the whole tank and the moss inside the hide i usually hold my snake 3-5 times a week as long as your snake isnt acting nervous it should be fine and if the snake has mits i would buy a new branch and throw out the old one.if it does have mites then get rid of the bedding and put it on pape towel or news paper until the mite problem is taken care of and get rid of the moss and put some fresh moss in the humide hide.

oh yea..right after it got done eating mom seen it was having trouble because it had gotten a piece of substrate in its mouth and couldnt get it out. she reached her hand in the tank and held its head and pulled that piece of substrate out of its mouth. then she let it go and said we shouldnt hold it for a few days cause she prob. just stressed it out and she dont want it to get sick. all dremora did was go back in its hide. we will leave it alone for a few days to be safe because it needs to digest the hopper anyway! i hope we did the right thing...mom said it was having problems with that piece of shaved wood we use for substrated and that maybe we should get calcium sand instead of the wood shavings for substrate..do you have any suggestions on that..the petshop said not to use the snake carpet til it was older cause its teeth may get caught in it when it feeds...i just need some advice cause tues. or wed. we are gonna go buy some more stuff for the snake..substrate included and find a vet..its my pay day on tuesday..thanks!!

Let me try and answer some of your questions.

1. Most snakes can handle getting substrate out of their mouth. If it was having that much trouble then yes it's a good idea to get it out. Mom did a good thing. Let it digest it's meal now.

2. Calcium sand is NOT appropriate for the snake. Stick with the shavings. Snakes in the wild get stuff caught in their mouths while feeding all the time. They live. If you're afraid it will choke or something, then place the hopper on a piece of paper towl or paper plate inside the cage then remove it after the snake has gone back into hiding.

3. I would check your snake for mites before treating it. The snake would be highly stressed to go through a mite treatment for no reason! Check around the eyes, nostrils for small little black dots. You can treat the branch as stated anyways to be safe.
