Here is my Poor Man’s snake Rack System : )

Hi everyone,

I figured I would show / share my Poor Man’s snake Rack System, that I keep my Juvie Boas in, it’s simple, low cost and it works.

Material list to build an exact replica of this Poor Man’s Rack is as follows.
Lumber
- 26 boards of 1 inch x 4 inch board ( I used the cheap kind ) $1.27 each
- 3 piece of 2 inch x 2 inch stock ( I used the cheap kind ) $1.09 each
Total for lumber $36.29 + Tax
1 1/2 inch wood Screws purchased in a box of 100 $5.98 + Tax
Carpenters Glue ( It's yellow ), small 350 ml container $3.98 + Tax

Precut all the material ahead of time.
- The risers are cut to 84 inch ( 7 feet high )
- Each shelf requires 4 pieces of 1 inch x 4 inch board cut to 37 1/4 inch long, plus 2 pieces of 2 inch x 2 inch stock cut to 17 inch long.

Assemble all the shelving by gluing the 1 inch x 4 inch board to the 2 inch x 2 inch stock, then screw them into place, once that is complete, start building the shelving system to the risers.

Please note that cheap / green lumber twists out of shape real fast, so plan on building this rack as soon as you come home with this lumber, once everything is glued and screwed, it stays put.

I will be building one more of these shortly, so I will take step by step Picts and make it into a tutorial / guide.

I use an 11 shelf system ( with 10 tubs up ) as seen in my Pict.
I also got help from my assistant that day lol

I use 40.1 L Rubbermaid containers aprox. size is 36 inch long x 16.5 inch deep x 6.5 inch high ( model 2119 ) usually purchased for $9.99, you can also use three of the smaller containers or one medium and one small.

I keep my Boas in these until there length reaches the length and depth of the tub, but before they get this size in girth lol
Tubs aprox. size is 36 inch long x 16.5 inch deep x 6.5 inch high.

Re: Here is my Poor Man’s snake Rack System : )

The rack system accommodates various sizes of Rubbermaid Containers, this permits me to keep some hold backs and change them from one tub to the next as they grow.
Shown here are the three size of Tubs I use.
Small : aprox. size is 16 inch long x 11 inch deep x 6.5 inch high.
Medium : aprox. size is 23 inch long x 16.5 inch deep x 6.5 inch high.
Large : aprox. size is 36 inch long x 16.5 inch deep x 6.5 inch high.

The heat pads I use are the Exo-Terra 10 inch x 11 inch Desert 16 Watts kind, I get them from a friends Pet Shop at low cost, I’m privileged for the moment, as my friend is helping me out a lot.
Since there is a lot of insurance issues in this part of the world : ( I cover my buns by using these, not necessarily by choice ; )

The heat pads are place on one side of the Tubs, and the snakes choses where it wants to be : )

For Water Bowls, I use a dog dish because of the size and flat bottom, they are heavy enough that they don't get tipped over, they where purchased at " Dollorama " or " Dollar or Two Store ", as soon as I see these on the shelf I usually clean out the store, I got the last batch for $2.oo each Tax in.

For the electrical, I use a 12 up power bar purchased at the local Reno store for $15.00 a pop.

Here is one of my Juvie walls.

Any and all comment are welcome.

Cheers,
Denis

PS : I had to cut this thread in 3 sections, to allow the posting of the images.

youve done a really good job Denis! I'm not particularly fond of racks but you've put the effort in and what ever works best for you! Well done! Im sure your detailed description will help others who are planning the same and the prices will give people an idea of how much they can spend! The prices are great too its so expensive here in the uk for most of the things you have described! Please keep us informed of your progress!
