My python needs a new enclosure

I have him in a 45gal. tank on its side but i feel its too small for him now. He is about 3' now and i think a 4x2x6 would be good. i just dont know where to begin building as to what materials i can use and so on. i plan to use a heat lamp as well as the heating pad for inside his hidding log. any help would be great. thanx Rich

You could build the cage out of 2x2's and ply wood. 3/8 ply wood is what i used and just make some housings for your lights. Here is a double stacking cage that I completed a couple of weeks ago.

reptile nut you sure do love posting pictures of that cage you made lol i dont blame you! its a really cool cage with those swinging doors and air vent. also can u tell me how to make that same exact cage except with the other cage? also what sized gallon cage is that. me and my dad or grandpa(since hes good with tools and knows how to build tons of stuff) could probably make. id like to make one big enough for my ball python to live in to last his whole life in so i dont need to buy other cages.

also is that housing thing for the lighting your talkin about just a box in the cage with like mesh on the bottom of it? also could you still use an undertank heater with that kinda cage?

First of all I love posting pictures of it yet. Im really proud of it LoL. Under tank heater wouldn't work I dont think because it would have to heat up the wood and everything. It would have to be turned up kinda high. Each section of this cage is 36"x18"x18" would be great size for a ball. For a while at least.
And its just 2x2's in a frame with ply wood on the outside of it. The doors of the cage close up against the light housings so that the snake cant get near the light. As for the doors and stuff my uncle just happen to have some old cabinet doors lying around his shop that we took the paneling wood out of the middle and added the plexi glass. But you have to paint the wood or at least water proof it. I got a few ideas from Brad "the snake guru" and the rest I was just guessing as to what to do. LoL.

Thank ya brad. Im going to get it finished up this week. Decided to do black paint with cherry wood stain. I will get pictures up by the weekend hopfully.

You could look into getting a boaphile. I have one and they're great. And they're really cheap too. You can get a 4' x 2' x 1' for $209 shipped. It's light weight and it has a front opening door with locks. You can also have Jeff (the owner) add flexwatt and lighting for you. It's an awesome deal.

Sorry, I just had to say I'm not a big BoaPhile cage fan.....there's been so many instances where the supposively stackable cages have bowed in the middle (on the longer ones) messed up the doors and what not. Unless he's made some changes to the design that is. They do work well however if you frame a rack around them so nothing is resting on them.

I've only got one right now. But I know of several breeders that keep stacks of them and haven't had problems with them. I think Jeff might've mentioned strengthening them though. Because I remember reading something about the bowing before.
