small halogen lights

Has anyone used those small, round, 10 or 20 watt halogen lights that Lowe's sells? I was thinking of using them to raise the temp in my enclosure a few more degrees. The package says they are dimmable so you could adjust the output.

Also, has anyone used shredded paper as a substrate? As I was leaving work today I saw a bunch of large bags of shredded paper that we recycle. All of our old reports, etc, are shredded into those long narrow strips. Any drawback to using this instead of aspen? Might nake good bedding for my feeder mice too.

I use stronger halogens (50watt) for my uromastyx since they have high heat requirements...but I have a sand substrate

Though I haven't used it myself, I've never heard any negative observations about shredded paper. Just make sure the paper itself is clean and hasn't been treated with any harmful inks/chemicals and you should be fine

I'm not fond of the idea of shreded paper, the chance of inks and chemicals is pretty high, not to mention most paper in the office has been bleached amongst other things. the halogens is a good idea or you could try a flood/spot light.

I think I'll give the halogens a try and see if they bring the temps up higher...and I'll stick to aspen for my snakes Thanks for the input.
