How Do You Ship Your Geckos?
Hi Everyone!
I was just wondering if I could get some people's experience with shipping cresteds in Canada. I am on the road to having a lot of babies next year, and I really would like to be prepared with how I can/should be shipping them. For example what carriers do you use, any special packing methods? Anybody that sells good packing materials, or what you use to pack. I have only had one set of geckos shipped to me, and they were from the USA, so I haven't seen too many people's shipping methods first hand.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Can you only ship via airlines here in Canada, FedEx or DHL or somebody like that will not?
Thanks

Legal shipping long distances is limited to air cargo. Short distances would be pickup or you deliver. I don't know of any courier in Canada that will knowingly take reptiles (or other live animals). I've checked with them all at local offices and was turned down. Same with bus express, they won't knowingly take them. Considering the weather and conditions they'd endure via ground transport, it's risky, probably end up with frozen or fried animals. Not telling the shipper that there are live animals would mean the box gets dumped around like anything else, again leading to dead or injured animals. The only options are air cargo or driving them.

Alright, thanks a lot! You saved me from having to go around and find that out myself.
I wonder why it's different in the states from Canada... I will have to ask them.
Thanks again,

Generally the best way to do it is have the buyer pay the shipping along with the cost of the animal. The buyer should pay for the animal before it gets shipped, and then the shipper has the money before shipping.
I hope that makes sense.

Most people send the reptiles collect. So you pay for the shipping when you go to pick them up at the airport. And you pay for the animal before it is shipped, not the shipping.
