temperature question

Im getting my first snake come october, a ball python. i have read numerouse references, so i know how to generally care for them. i would just like to know what the best method of keeping the day time/night time teperatures in the cage. I want to know every little detail about how to care for balls so i dont make a bad mistake.

90F warm side, 80F cool side 24 hours/day, accomplished by a heat pad or heat tape thermostatically-controlled under one side of the cage.
