Summer's here AC's are on!

As much as my reptiles would love it if I left the AC off and let the 86degree heat come in, tough, I need coolness. These poor reptiles suffer through a canadian winter and as soon as it gets cozy out, freezing air starts blasting in! lol, well I exaggerate a bit, they have all their heating aparatices to stay cozy, but I guess for many people at this time of year they get to save a bit on hydro and just turn them off and enjoy the natural heat.
Still, if I had a yard I am sure my beardie would enjoy some outside time in the sun and swealtering heat.

For those who don't have AC, remember to frequently check your temps. Additional heating, like basking lights, may not be needed (depending on species) on those hot dog days of summer. My room sometimes reads 84F, at which point all heating devices are turned off. I don't want to cook my milksnakes.

I've already turned off the heat in my herp room (south side of the house) and turned on the ceiling fan to equalize the temps in the room

yup. My heat lights for most of the herps are off, only uros have their lights still and my turtles have low watts. But we installed the AC yesterday on the main floor and upstairs is next. It doesn't help much in the herp room as that is in the basement so I intend on using our extra fans down there this year. Last year even with all the heating units off I still lost 2 animals during a heat wave. This year I want to be prepared we will be using 3 fans one in a window and two standing rotating fans. If I need more I will get more! Would love to put an ac down there for them as well but it isn't really set up to fit an ac down there the way the basement windows are set up.

Just remember too much heat can do just as much or even more damage than not enough heat!

Herps are like pringles, you can't stop at just one.

so it's safe to use central air for herps? I just moved into rental house with central AC. I was afraid to use it. Not only for the herps, but i have parrots & AC kills them. So i was thinking of leaving the vent in the animal room closed & the windo open. Any thoughts? I need education in this area.
