The 'basic guideline' for feeding 'ideally sized' prey that is commonly used until you get to know your snake's individual needs and habits, is to feed a signle prey item roughly the same size or slightly larger than your snake's girth. That is a very safe way to feed. Once you gain more experience you will be able to vary the size of the prey, etc. It never hurts to feed somewhat smaller either, and some snakes are capable of consistently taking larger meals. The larger the meal, the more digestion takes place, and also comes the inheritent risk of a regurgitation, so you need to be wise with that practice.
