Taiwan beauty escapee story
Ok, I have no idea how Zen, my 4.5 footer taiwan beauty escaped, but
I can just imagine. Poor guy is cramped, gotta get me those 11 gal
longs from Superstore, anyways, so Zen here, who was "the male taiwan
beauty" before he left on his little jaunt, escaped from his enlcosure a
few days ago. I felt very foolish and sad, that he was gone.
I bought him off of the kingsnake classifieds for a mere $40 US with
$25 shipping, with my paypal account that I had just opened
specificially so I could buy him. I had him shipped off to my friend in
Florida, Mark Kenderdine. Mark held him for me, for two weeks before he
shipped him and several other snakies out to me and Vanan. So this guy
has a bit of history as you can see.
When I bought him he was in shed. Not very pretty. I was told he
was highstrung. So I basically left him alone and bought myself a nice
baby female to go with him. Anyways, I started to play with him and
found him to have a very nice personality. I was very pleased with him.
He ate while in shed, two adult mice. I was more than pleased. I
became very proud of him.
He shed out for me and he was just gorgeous! Taiwans are known to
have a lot of yellow, unfortunately, my pair are not. The female may
grow up to be as her parents were very yellow, but this guy I believe is
just an average taiwan and won't amount to much, but a yellowish olive
green, which is fine by me, as green is my favourite colour.
So within two days of shedding, he was gone. I was well, sad,
disappointed. I blocked up the exits to the house, well just the front
door, the other exists are blocked. I looked around and around and
around, hoping to find him, to no avail. I decided I'd just have to
wait him out.
I was feeding my snakes and an idea struck me. I should leave a
mouse out for him. So I put a mouse on a sock and placed it in the
corner of the herp room. So I left the mouse there for two days,
surprisingly it didn't smell bad. I was sort hoping it would and draw
the taiwan out. (Snakes are known to eat carrion.) Well about two days
later, we were in the herp room, Vanan was feeding and I was looking at
Evelyn, my white lip python. Vanan stops, and says "Guess what?" I
look where he looks and I see my taiwan!!! I grabbed him, (the taiwan)
and he didn't even flinch, he was just like, "wah, what'cha waking me up
for?" I kissed the stupid snake and twirled around. Vanan was smiling
and we were generally happy that he had returned. Vanan says, that he
looked like he was just meditating on the shelf. I saw a suspicious
looking lump in him and checking the mouse in the corner, I realized it
was the mouse from the corner! My ploy worked!
He actually grew since the time I saw him, he's so big! His head is
huge, he's very impressive looking. It's easy to see why they are
called beauty snakes. Full grown, these snakes can reach 8 feet. The
parents of my baby female were 8 feet. I really like them, I look
forward to working with them and collecting more beauties.

Neat story. I'm glad he decided to let you catch him
He looks like a beauty to me. It's a shame there aren't more around for us to enjoy. You guys willl have to be the ones to bring them into the Canadian market.

Well actually they are around, Scales Zoo hatched a few and I think they were askin g$150 to$300 for them. There's also some blue beauties up here, and some cave dwellers (also a beauty snake). Hopefully by the time my guys are ready to go, they'll be more affordable to the average keeper.

OTHER BEAUTY SNAKES IN THE WEST!!!
Hi Katt, good to hear you found your beauty. I myself "lost" a VBB once for 1/2 a day as well. She somehow got into the dresser & had herself all settled in amongst a bunch of sweaters. Of course the dresser was the last place I looked (thought she was too big to fit into it) & the last of the 8 drawers is where she was. She almost slipped by me too, she didn't move a muscle, but the extra weight of the drawer gave her away. Just so everyone knows Ryan & Sheila (HISS/SCALES) have produced TB this year & Steven Chandler (Medicine Hat - AB) produced VBB this year also. Look for more from Steve next year as I myself gave Steve both a VBB & TB (adult females) this summer at the Calgary TARAS show. I sold one of Steve's VBB he produced this year (nice little female) in less than 5 minutes there also for $250 no questions asked (they wanted to pay me before I myself had even seen the snake. I could have sold lots more at the same price easy). People were lining up to see both the Tawain & Vietnamese I had on display (now both Steve's). I myself am also working with a pair of VBB"s & hope to produce in the next year as well (fingers crossed - LOL). I'll try to post some pics here later but no promises, I haven't had much luck in previous attempts (files are too big). Anyhow there are people in the West working with adult breeders, so wish us luck. Mark IsBell - GONE SNAKEE!

He looks like a beaut too me.
We've tried setting up various snake traps when one of our snakes escaped.... but he never went in them, instead we found him in the middle of the floor. go figure.
