cricket size? colors?

hey guys, i got my veiled chameleon at a pretty small size, he was pure light green, very small veil and body lengh a half of my index finger, now, a month and a half later he grew a lot.. i got him a 1000 half-size crickets, and he still eats so many of them, a thousand lasts like a month... so im thinking of moving up to maybe adults with the next cricket purchase? im sure hell b able to take em down, but is it gona give any harm to the little guy? he is very healthy, i give him a lot of spraying, butter,silk,wax,meal worms and everything i can to make his nutricion full.
what are the bad sides of giving him full grown crickets? and should i??? also i was at a pj's petsotre the otehr day, and there was a veiled chameleon there and he was smaller then my guy when i got him but he was already showing the outline of the pattern and colors, mine was pure light green. my cham is a male, so it cant be a difference in sex, since i know that males get nices colors. could it be that my chameleons parents werent as nice as the pet store one's ? or something else?

A picture would help. Soem bad things that can happen is he can choke or can't get it past his digestive system. Don't feed him any crickets wider then its head.

One thing to think about is adult crickets are not as vitamin and mineral rich as small to medium crickets. Studies by Furguson (et al. 1996) shown that smaller crickets had higher concentrations of Vit A and D. Another study (Hunt et al. 2001) showed that week old and half grown crickets had a higher calcium to phosphorus ratio. These studies were done using a standard Zeigler cricket diet with no other dry foods offered.
