MIKE:
From all of 2004 news on these forums it can be a few options.
If your looking at a morph with lots of possibilities and decent pricing, Pastels seem to make all the Ball Python fanciers all warm inside
If your looking more money, and still be in the craze for them, then Albinos, will always get people excited.
Further into it I guess the Spiders made a big name/market in Canada, but this ain' t cheap to start.
And lets say you got lotto 6/40 numbers those Mojaves seem to have rocked the market in the last few days and it might be for many more years.
PS. Thought you said you would not bother with Ball Pythons or care to get into it, lol.
PS. If you get into Pied send me some.
Cya...

well it realy comes down to $$$$.
het for albinos will cost $250 C.D and up het (fire ball) black eyed lucy will set you back probably tens and tens of thousands of $$$
As far as reg hets go, ghosts will be very big, het albinos are always a good start, clowns genetic stripes, hell any of the resesive genes will be a good long term investment!

The best long term Het investment (on a budget) will be Ghost (Hypo) for what can be done with them in every other projects.
Everybody and their little sister has/will have Albinos & Hets!

Well, I'm just starting to get into the morphs but I've so far got het orange ghost male and a het pied male (he'll be here next week can we say excited!) Go with the ones you like, from the first time I saw them I wanted a pied, so now I'm going to get them it will take a while but I'm getting them! Ghost, I want to eventually see it crossed with a pied same with the albino etc.

As for which ball python morphs that will sell on the Canadian market, there really aren't that many. My line of thinking is the lower a ball morph price gets, the more people are willing to buy one. I feel the best bet for morphs that will easy to sell in Canada are pastels (get in quick though) and albinos. These are two morphs seem to be the main staple of the "average" breeder north of the border. I would include ghosts, but with the prices that I've seen them for sale here in Canada, they just don't seem worth it at that price point and the markets not there.

Yeah Mykee brings up a good point.
My boyfriend has/is always pushing to get some het pieds because he really LOVES pieds and we have put money aside to be able to buy them.
But my point to my boyfriend is why? Sure we make a pied for ourselves, but what to do with any others we make? We can't ship to the states...and Canadians simply are not spending 5-25 thousand on Ball Python morphs....sure maybe a few are. But not enough to ensure everyone breeding pieds will sell out. (Those that sell IN canada anyways)
It seems pastels are everywhere! At the show they had tons of pastels all over the place. Albinos are nice too, and ghosts are a little pricey but if they drop a bit, I think they are a good investment since they can help create a lot of other interesting morph combos.
That my uneducated opinion on the matter :P

If you want to breed and sell the morphs you have to be willing to ship into the US. Canada doesnt' have the market yet.

Like everyone is saying, pastels are the best investment right now, but soon everone and his brother is going to have one. Albinos are a little pricey as far as i am concerned. I think ghosts are a little better value for your money than albinos are. But i think the smartest thing to do is buy a pair of hets and breed them out. By the time u breed them out the demand for them might have increased. If not at least u have them for your own collection and your ahead of the game when people do want them. But thats just my two cents worth on the subject.

Marisa: why "can't we ship to the States"? It's not that hard, from your end it only requires one form to fill out and send in, and that can happen in as little as 5 business days.
Smeagel: I think that for 'curb appeal' that the ghost is not an impressive snake at all. Yes 'we' who are in the hobby understand and appreciate the subtle nuances that make a ghost a ghost, but for the "uneducated" public (who, incidentally, with lower-end morphs, will be your market) you need a morph that is both visually appealing, or will have a good return on your investment. As for return on investment, pastel is the shizzle; co-dom, so you can see a return in as little as two years, and the cheapest visible morph out there. The fact that "everyone and their brother" will own one in a few years is even better in my opinion. More visibility and lower prices means the market opens up to a whole new crowd, possibly even pet stores when they drop to $500 or so. Pastels will be "THE" ball morph in Canada for years.

Mykee: I totally agree that the pastel will be "THE" morph out there for many years, and no doubt that a albino is visually more appealing to the "public". You know with the pretty bright yellow on it . But as far as I am concerned, for us as breeders and hobbyists the ghost is a more interesting morph to work with. As well as the pastel. But we shall see what happens in the future.

Smeagel; I'll be honest, you can have the ghosts, until they drop to 50% of their current Canadian asking price, I'm not even looking at them.

Mykee: Thats why i have a pair of hets. Not nearly as expensive and I will hatch one out hopefully in the next year or two.I'm only interested in them for their morph combos. Although an albino would be sweet to have as well. Maybe some day.

I'm with Mykee. Put an albino or a pastel next to a hypo, make the price equal, and see which moves the fastest. I'd take Pastels and Albinos over ghosts. I mean, why not work with all three, LOL! But if you HAD to choose, albinos are just so damn cool. They are simply amazing.
