Yet Another Classifieds Announcement
The idea has been tossed around, and we've finally decided that the Classified ads will now be cleared every 2 weeks instead of at the end of every month. The Classifieds are simply too cluttered by the end of the month.
So, the ads will be cleared December 15th, and then again on January 1st.

I'm really not sure how long it takes anyone else to type up an ad, but if it takes them that much time that they'd be annoyed with having to post it again in 2 weeks, I suggest they write it out in Word first and save it....
We've had a number of people suggest we dump the ads every two weeks to allow ads to be seen by everyone, now that we're doing it, we're going to be annoying people??? And what does, us being the mods have to do with anything?? We're doing what the MEMBERS have asked us to do.....

I Personally like the idea. I personally only read recent ad’s any way after a month chances are things are sold already any way. Is it possible to set it so posts expire after they have been up for 2 weeks rather then dumping them all at a certain time? It’s just a thought I realize many things are easier said then done but that way ad's put up the day before won't be dumped a day later.

It'd be trivial to do with just a few lines of *nix shell scripting.... whether the posts are stored as database entries, files, or entries in a file. The problem is, to do it that way you need shell access, and most likely root priviledges, which I don't think the mods have.
I don't think vBulletin itself has a built-in feature like that.

I think it's a very good idea as well. As Matt has already indicated, if you invest a great deal of time putting your ads together (by the way it is good to do so, from a buyer's viewpoint - I don't even look any further past the first spelling mistake) then save it in Word first. Cut and paste every two weeks, no big deal...
Plus, this has the added advantage of concentrating ads from our dedicated Canadian sellers, as I would rather not deal with the person with 5 posts to his/her name who isn't on here enough to renew his/her ad every two weeks.
Cheers,
Ryan

I don't think there's any way to set them to expire...
hhw, you're a geek
I know that many members asked for this to be implemented and I personally think it's a good idea. There won't be as many ads to sift through, and everyone will have a better chance of their ad being seen.

I guess technically you can have more then one ad for an animal in a month.. However, you can't have more then one ad for that snake in the 2 week period.

We will update the rules of the Classifieds to say 'only 1 post per animal per 2 week period' as opposed to each 1 month period.
If you've already got an ad up for it, don't put up another one...

Sounds like a good plan to me... I know those areas see a lot of traffic so it makes sense.
And cutting and pasting takes all of 3 seconds to do So it's not asking a lot for people to do that either.
