cage suggestions...

what should i build it outta.. glass or melimine( my dad owns a glass comp so i know how to build them), how should i heat it, heat tape, under tank heater, cereminc or bulbs.

and what the big thing about heat tape... everyone seems to like it.. where in a wood tank would i put it inside or out... and a glass tank for that matter... and how does it creat a hot and cold part... is it only on one side of the tank.... im still searchin for answers on it but i only found one good site that tells you how to hook it up...

a childrens or spotted will prob be going in there...

You want to build the entire enclosure out of glass? Well it would look cool but what if something hit it? Wouldn't there be problems with the inside of the cage being warm and the outside being cooler in winter? Don't know how warm you keep your house but if there is a big difference the glass will crack. I'm not exactly sure how big the difference has to be though. If you have thought of ways to work around all the obvious problems with glass and can make it work. I think a glass cage would be cool.

heat tape only goes over one part of the cage yes. You could run a strip across the whole cage and run it at a low temperature to increase the over all ambient temperature, but would require additional heating for a basking spot. Heat tape still goes outside the melamine.

Personally i think you should read that post about how to build a 4x2x1 melamine cage a few threads down, build that and you won't have any problems.

for the glass there has to be an extreem amount of difference... lik -20C outside and 30C inside so thats not a prob... plus i work with glass so making entirly outta glass isnt a prob... ive already read that thread and i like the tank thats why i was askin about the heat tape... its not very likely that glass will crack due to heat or cold... unless its extreem...

the heat tape goes on the outside right....

ill prob just build the melamine.... i think it would make a snake feel more secure maybe cut a hole in the top for a heat lamp... is there any other way to create a basking spot other than a heat lamp.... maybe run 11" tape at one side then convert it to 3" then stop 2 thirds of the way across the tank

11 heat tape---3 heat tape---none

would that creat a proper radiant or maybe run 11 heat tape around a corner...
