i need to know if my python is healthy...if it has a retained eye cap...is that ok??...is it ok if my python looks up...i hope its not star gazing..it dosent seem like it though

Relax.

First of all we need WAY more information. Hot spot, cold spot, enclosure type, enclosure size, humidity, last time it ate, is it CB or WC?

A retained eye cap is not "o.k." and needs to be dealt with. For starters a long soak will help. But that's for starters. Give us more info

Your signature is only suposed to be 4 lines.
If your python has a retained eye cap treat it like any other bad shed and take care of it.
If it is in fact star gazing it will be dead in about a month and then you'll know for sure whether it was star gazing or not.

can you define more clearly what star gazing should look like. my bp has been getting a bath every day now it seems becuase of a retained shed around his head. the eye caps have not come off. he ate just fine two days ago but this has been a problem now for well over a week. Im not having any luck getting it off.


edit: my bps behavior seems mostly normal, which is always trying to find a way out of his tank. so its naturally up, but when hes not looking around for an escape hes just having a nap in his hot spot. So im not sure how to tell the difference between possible star gazing or just curious still. looking in other threads it seems star gazing is actually a disease

For an eye cap or any retained skin place a warm damp thick bath towel inside a rubbermaid that would be some what small for the ball python, about hide box size. Put the ball into the rubbermaid that is now lined with the warm damp towel and wrape him in the towel. Put on the lid and place it back into the cage over night and shut the cage. This way if it escapes from the rubbermaid it is escaping into it's own cage.
Star gazing is a symptom of IBD. The snake can not control it's self and does it almost constantly. IBD is always fatal and kills BPs especially fast. Importers will throw a BP into a shipment of Boas to see whether or not the ball dies in a month or so. If the ball dies one or more of the imported boas is suspected to have IBD so the shipment is destroyed, or should be anyway. Just one of the harsh realities of the reptile importing business.

lovley...my sig is totally wrong..i ahve way more pets now..it isent doing it constantly..i think it was trying to escape..the ewnclosure is pretty big..about the size ofa thrity..its a rubbermaid with wood chips..and a half log hiding spot. im a ttaching a heating pad soon..(like in five minutes) if they constantly ,look up when star gazing...then he isent

Elevated head is also a sign of a Resperatory Infection. You say you are attaching a heat pad now, how long has he been with out one?

i just got it today..i put the heating pad on the side of the rubbermaid...to heat it up...its starting to warm up...which is good..i worked with its eye cap...and its almost off..

You should put the snake through a two week aclimation period.
So my advice would be if you find it, stop taking naps with it.
Read everything you can. It sounds like you have to do more reaserch.
