At what age dose a Hogg reach sexual maturity ?
Do hoggs or other snakes exibit behaviour changes during or after sexual maturity ?

2 years male, 3-4 years female.

I agree with Jeff but our two year old male is not quite up to the task of breeding yet. He has been ignoring his 3 1/2 yr old girl so we threw in another male to see if it was her and the other male began courting her right away. So it is definitely not because of her it is because he is not ready yet. The 02 Hog was raised up slowly and is at about four foot but doesn't have much girth yet.

I haven't seen any changes in attitude with any of my breeding boas including my hogs. My experience with a dozen or so hogs has been the same as any other boa or python. Some can be calm and predictable while others can be unpredictable and aggressive. I read your other post about your hog striking the glass. It sounds like a feeding response to me and I reccomend feeding in its enclosure and always removing it with a hook. Some of my boas strike glass from time to time if the smell of rat is in the air. This can last for an hour or so after feeding. If this behaviour were to continue with one of my boas that was normally calm I would look closely at its husbandry. I have an adult hog that hisses, gapes, and lunges about every tenth time I take her out but she never bites. Some would call this unpredictable but after keeping her for awhile now I expect it from time to time and it becomes predictable.

For potential Hog owners, I hope the recent threads are not putting anyone off buying themselves a Hog or two.
My experiences with Hogs, and I have three different strains, have all tended to be good ones. I hope others find this snake as pleasurable as I have.
It is very hard to find fault with Hogs in my opinion, and raised from infants they can almost be described as petlike.
I may be biased, but there was a time when I had never owned a Hog, so my biases only came from personal experiences.
On the other side of the coin, there was a Hog for sale quite recently in a Calgary pet shop. It had the meanest attitude and it never seemed to settle down despite the efforts of staff members to calm it. I would guess the age of the snake to have been around 2-3 years, and would suggest from information given that it wasn't a locally bred snake. The snake appeared highly stressed and would strike for little or no reason when approached, although that in itself was good reason for striking. Perhaps the snake needed to be worked with. Who knows what that snake had previously endured?
Anyway my guess is that someone in Calgary is now the owner of that snake, and I would love to know if progress has been made with this otherwise beautiful snake.

To others out there I would like to apologize to those people who were offended by my 'grumpiness' on a previous thread. I have no excuses. Sorry.

The only behavioural differences I have noticed when they reach sexual maturity is 'cruising for lovins' during the breeding season. I've mainly noticed this with male boas, but I have one female Hog who absolutely gets herself in to a frenzy every year looking for love...lol They may also refuse food during this time, since they have other things on the brain...lol
