some advice about lighting?

I was wondering... could someone give me an idea or two about how to put some light on Casper when I take pics? My apartment is just dark enough that I need to use the flash yet somehow still bright enough that the flashed pictures look like an inverted negative . I was toying with the idea of putting a flourescent light over him while I take the pic... is that a good idea? I can't see it bothering him too much, but I'm still new at this

The flash is too bright or you are too close for the flash to work properly (I think). Try using as much natural light as possible. Pictures outside or near windows. More artificial light should work too, flouresent light should not bother him.

flouresent light could give a cold tint to the photos. i like incadesant light or both combined

Thanks for the advice... I'll probably go with the incandescent, since my camera's not exactly the best

If your flash is to strong, try some wax paper over it to diffuse it.
Or use some nice incandescents. I've noticed alot of trouble with flourescents in photography.

I setup a area with the light right over the animal. This way there is maxium lighting and do not use a flash. The other important thing is finding the correct color for the background. Use the oppisite of what you are photographing. This way they stand out better.
