I don't have any experience breeding minnow but from my reading over the years I can say that it likely won't be too easy... though I could be wrong. They, like all members of the carp/goldfish/minnow family, are egg-layers. The spawing of most most North American minnows is quite closely related to temperature. The northern species spawn after a long, cold cool-down and the southern ones after a short, mild one. How long after warming up spawing occurs varies from species to species. The eggs probably take *just a guess* about 2-4 weeks to hatch and the fry (baby fish) will take a couple months to get upto size.

For my knifefish I breed platies because they are easy to maintain, the breed easily and they are live-bearers (no eggs to worry about). They are not att all opposed to canniblism so it is nessisary to provide lots of cover for the young. I use an old bathtub with two heaters and a filter. I use live plants to help improve water quality and keep them on a mud substrate. This produces way more platties than I need but it's kind of fun.

You can do a google search for specifics like temperatures and such. If you need spawning temps and breeding notes for native minnows I can provide them.
