Question Need to find herp vet...

Hey everyone,
I am looking for a herp vet in Ontario. After the unexplained death of a hatchling borneo blood python 2 years ago I started looking but never found one that was satisfactory.

I need one that is excellent and knows how to treat/deal/test for the following:

surgical procedures
autopsys
IBD and related serious or fatal diseases
eggbound snake/lizard
broken bone
severe respiratory infection
severe Stomatitis

Also one that I can purchase deworming and other medication from, I haven't found anywhere else to purchase deworming meds and I would like to give everyone a routine treatment soon.

With the next hatching season fast approaching I want to have all boids tested for IBD even tho none show any signs. I heard you can test for it, is that true? I do not want to breed any carriers and so prior to the next breeding season I want to have everyone checked. That way I don't have to euthanize an innocent hatchling.

I take breeding very seriously and since this year looks promising I want to produce completely healthy offspring.

Please let me know, of any that you have personally dealt with that was excellent with your herps. Does not matter where they are located in Ontario, I will find a way there.

Thanks!

I am overly impressed with the vets @ High Park Animal Clinic in Toronto. Probably the best in the province. They are top of the line and very experienced with major medical procedures involving herps, and have great customer service to boot! They are a bit pricey, but I have found that you get what you pay for with vets. These guys aren't local for me either, and there are several herp vets closer, but if I need a vet I make the trip out there. It's well worth it!

You could also try looking up vets on this site, it is the Association of Reptialian and Amphibian Veterinarians. They have listings of all their members all over the world.

Hiya,

I've been dealing with Links Road Animal & Bird Clinic -- they specialize in exotic pets like birds, reptiles etc... although they treat cats & dogs also.

I'm not sure if they do everything that you mentioned, but it can't hurt to contact them I've only ever had fecals done, and got deworming meds from them... Their prices seem fairly reasonable -- and the vet that I saw was very nice, and seemed quite competent when handling my leos...

Hi there everyone! thanks for your responses! Do you have phone numbers for the places you mentioned? With phone numbers I can do a search and find out address, directions and such. TO is a 7 hour drive for me, not too much outta the way. But ofcourse for my herps I would travel to BC if necessary.

I would recommend Dr. Tracy Buhrows at Lincoln Village Animal Hospital. She's very good with reptiles and reasonably priced. Located at

Thanks everyone, I'm actually no where near those places, I'm between the north shore of lake huron and sudbury. I will contact them all to check out prices for the IBD testing, meds and such. I will let you all know prices for some of those procedures. I treat minor cuts/abrasions and burns at home, as well as internal and external parasites. I have also treated tail tip necrosis with great success, with no further complications. So I will not be asking about those common procedures.

Thanks again everyone!
