Hi Everyone,
Not many posts on here but I hope I get some tips.
i am thinking of getting a Red Eyed Tree Frog. I have done some research on the net, but most seem to be cut and paste jobs.

So I have a few questions:
1) do they need a heat pad or is room temp enough?
2) any good links to careshets detailing cage set up etc.
3) do any of oyu have pictures of your Red Eyes enclosures? I am really curious to see some.

Personally, I suggest having a large pool of water witha "bubbler" type filter in it ...as well as a small (50 watt or less) aquarium heater set for 82 degree ... the water will heat up, and the bubbler will filter and disperse this warm mist into the tank ... provided that the tank is relatively enclosed ( very few holes) then it should keep a great humidty and warmth...best of luck

what size tank etc do you keep one in? and is it recommended to get more than 1? I saw they are communal animals... Any other tips or maybe pictures of a tank set up or how-to?

this is my first tank 10g.


A waterfall for my 33g vivarium

the skeleton of the tank with a false bottom held up by polyurathane foam. there is a mini pump under there attached to the tube. I used black silicone to hide the contents of the false bottom from view.

this is how I make the background with greatstuff expanding foam and black silicone (the one without fungisides) from home depot. After applying the foam I sand it a bit (so the silicone can stick better), smear silicone over small portions at a time and pat on coco bedding. Presto!

Thanks for the links and the info. Would you guys recommend more the heat pad, or the overhead light? I am leaning more towards the light, but then I worry about night time temps with it off.. although the sites say room temp is generally fine for night temps.. what do you all think??

Usually a nightly low of 65 degrees is ok. I would not use a heat bulb lamp, personally. It creates too much of an upward motion of moist air and can dry out your vivarium. My tank lids are almost completly glass, because frogs do not typically need alot of air circulation. I believe you may be able to reach your ideal temp simply with your floersent light. If that does not suffice, lean more towards uth (which will have to be setup to a reostat to regulate the temp output) or a submersible fish tank heater. A 24" floersent should do the trick. In the summer it may get too hot and the light must be elevated from the tank lid so it does not overheat. what size tank are thinking of using?
