humidity idea- good or bad?

Hi all-

Been working on a way to raise the humidity in my BP enclosure, which currently is a 10 tank with a mesh top, and a piece of glass over that which helps hold in some humidity in now. There is about an inch of space along the length of the back side of the enclosure that is only the mesh top, and not covered up by the glass. The humidity now is 50-55, but id like to try to get it up to 60-65. I was thinking about sewing some sponges into the screen, almost like lining the inside of the screen with a layer of sponge. Not only would they not be visible because of the tanks black edging, but they would also keep the snake from hurting himself on the rough screen. Then I could mist the sponges periodically, not enough to where they would drip, but to where they would be holding some water. Then after replacing the glass top, that should help bring in some humidity without having to worry about blister disease or having too much moisture on the ventral side.

Is this a good idea or is there something i havent thought through yet that would be bad?

New BP is still settling in. Will post pics soon.

Did you try putting the water dish above/under the heat source. That would help a bit.

Ok first of all The one inch space of screen you are talking about kinda worries me. Are there other vents to receave some air flow in the tank? Just seams that it would creat alot of stuffyness in the tank could lead to respitory problemes. What do you use as a substrate? Do you mist the tank at all. A regular misting will help with the humidity, once in the morning and once at night should be good. Just make sure to always leave a dry spot in the enclosure as constantly being on a wet substrate and having cool temps can cause necrotic dermatitis, which is really like a rotting of scrutes. As im sure you can imagine this horrible.

Sorry if my first post was confusing. Its one inch in along the width (so from the back of the tank to the front, there is an inch of exposed space, but that inch of width runs the entire length of the tank- all along the back of it. I dont think air flow is a problem. My temps are perfect. Humidity on the hot side is at 50, and on the cool side is about 63. Id like to get it a little highter. New bp has pink belly and not from UTH, I took it off and switched to lamp heat source, which actually made the temps PERFECT, but now I know he isnt burning underneath, so Im thinking he is going into shed. I will try misting, I just thought putting water in the sponge would keep his underside dry, while sorta time-releasing some moisture longer than misting would raise things. I would take him out and soak him, but he has only been in his new home for 3 days. He is totally loving it though, explores a lot, and spends good amounts of time on both sides.

Humidity worries me though, especially with the prospect of his first shed, and ive read so much conflicting info on this I have no idea what I should make my target RH.

Thanks for replying! Any other opinions would be awesome!

sounds like a good idea to try . I would change the sponges often due to mold growing on them . sponges are notorious for atracting mold.
