Few outdoor blizzard pics

Had this guy outside for a few pictures last weekend when the weather was nicer - he is one of the 'lemon peel' variety of blizzard corns with extensive yellow on the chin and belly checkers as well as yellow trim around his saddles.

WOW, the is one of the most amazing corns I’ve seen, I'm normally not at all a corn person, but that is a beautiful snake. It’s amazing the verity corns have.

That's gorgeous Mary!! I've never seen a blizzard with that much yellow before though, as I always assumed that charcoals were axanthic as well as anerythristic. Noetheless, it does make for a beautiful blizzard corn.

I'm still new to corns (just got my first one last week) and I'm trying to learn all these morphs, etc. When I first saw this pic I thought it was a snow (especially with the yellow around the saddles, etc) - can someone explain the difference between this snake and a snow?

There are two genes in cornsnakes that both produce an absence of red pigment - anery A (regular anerys - usually quite black and white with a lot of yellow on chin) and anery B (charcoal corns - greyer tones usually without much yellow). Actually they usually reduce it, rather than completely eliminate it and some would argue that that caramel and lavender are others but we will leave that out of it for now.

When one of these is combined with amelanism (absence of black) the result is an almost white snake - some yellow, pink or beige tones remain as well as some irridescence that often appears as green borders.

A snow is a corn that is homozygous for both amelanism and anery A and a blizzard is one that is homozygous for amelanism with anery B. Snows can have saddles that are pink, pale yellow, or flesh colored beige that may be tinged or bordered with green. They often develop yellow chins and bellies.

Blizzards come in two extremes - those with yellow and those that are pure white. Most of the breeders have selected for babies that have no yellow, but a few have kept the yellow based lines. As Invictus comments above - the yellow based pigments in corns (xanthins) are not always reduced along with the reds.

Blizzard hatchlings are very distinct from snows. Snows are usually pinkish with very visible saddles no matter what color their saddle markings develop when they age. Blizzards are pure white with no saddle markings as hatchlings. The yellow pigment that develops comes in at the same time as the normal yellowing of the chin in all corns and seems more like the same yellow hue unlike the creamy yellow of snows. It is also my impression that the white areas are denser white on blizzards than snows. I think the red eye color of blizzards is more dramatic than the pink eyes of snows, but I could be wrong on that - have not had a lot of them to compare.
