That is a long looking egg.
Does it matter what newspaper you use? Have you experimented with different newspapers?

What, did you buy them that toy from Love Craft? LOL
You having fun yet Jeffy??
It's getting close to that time of year when its time for me to tell you to "Stop Showing Off"
Hey bud, can you post a pic of your Hondo trays from further back to give me a perspective on the size... What make and size are you using? I suspect they are bigger than the ones I'm using. Have you ever had any egg binding problems in Hondos? My female took 2 months to lay her entire clutch last year, but then there were a total of 15 or some ridiculous amount. She had 3 slugs in her for the longest time.. Then she finally dropped them and a month later produced a second clutch... most of which were no good...
There seems to be a concensus forming that retained ova in colubrids may be associated with small rack housing and poor exercise..
Although for many years, I had no incidence of egg binding in numerous Hodurans while I used Jumbo kitty litter pans which are smaller than my current Zellers "truly" brand trays....

Its the same Rubbermaids as the Ball Python ones Roy. The under-the-bed storage ones. 34" x 18" x 6".
Ha ha, leave it to Uncle Roy to turn a Hondo egg into a sex toy! LOL!
I haven't had any egg-bound Hondos yet, but I cross my fingers every year. The Rubbermaids are very large, and there's TONS of room. The best part about the long length, is that I can get a wicked heat gradient. I can crank the back up to 90F, with the front still being at 73-75F. Its good because after a large female eats 5-7 mice, they can go be hot if they want. They USE the ENTIRE cage, that's for sure.
Cheers man!
Ha hathis will be the last year I inundate everyone with pics on every single damn thing, ha ha!! Just want one more year of exposure, LOL!

Thanks Jeff! My racks are only 24 deep, so yes, you have bigger trays than I use, which is a good thing... I might need to make some new rack frames for those longer bins. I'm especially concerned about the black milks which aren't even 2 yet and are eating small rats and approaching 4 foot. I think they're going to be beasts.
But then I've bred 7 foot Northern Pines in these, but that doesn't mean they're ideal.. I think the bigger the better especially for colubrids

Thanks Jen..I've been building these pine and screen racks for eons. Much lighter than melamine but probably more work. I have wheels on most of my racks, and being light means I only need 2 inch casters. You'd need bigger stronger ones for melamine racks.
Wheels make life easier for wiring, repositioning and wall painting, and the big bonus is I simply wheel them into the next room for hibernating.. It beats the old weekend long drudgery of packing everything in those separate blue rubbermaids for brumation...This way they stay in the same tray all year round.. I just started with the wheel thing about 15 years ago. Its working out pretty good. Gotta go slow over the snake proof threshold though.. cracked a wheel off once
ps, My pathetic rainbow kiddy wallpaper has been stripped off(with much sweat and toil) and the walls are now white. Used that special no odor CIL Dulux latex... fantastic stuff!!!

All done. Only 6 eggs for this girl, but that's ok because the eggs were HUGE, and the female was just a little girl!
Woo-hoo!

Great looking female and neat clutch. Someone, Katt I think posted pics of a clutch from a young blue beauty that were very elongate in comparison to clutches from older females that had rounder eggs - perhaps the greater body depth of a mature female allows for eggs to be rounder, but in smaller bodied females they take a more elongate form.
Great to hear that you have another albino clutch incubating - that waiting list will be even longer now! Congrats and best of luck with the hatchlings,
mary v.

Thanx Mary!
Yeah, the rice-kernel egg thing is weird. But then again, Colubrids are weird, ha ha!
Stav, I guess every egg could have twins, LOL! So that's 12 baby albinos! Never looked at it that way, ha ha ha ha!
It'll be interesting to see how big the babies are in comparison. I'll have 4 clutches hatching within 3 days of each other, so I'll compare the babies. Maybe there is just more "yolk", and the baby size stays the same?
Cheers guys! Hondos rule!
