New snake owner

I got a 50 gallon under tank heater for a 50 gallon aquarium for my 2.5-3 ft ball python (only had him two days) i have it set under the tank (NOT with the sticky tape pulled off and the heater applied to the glass, just slid underneath) and about 2 inches of snake quality fir bark. the heater has no type of temp control. it is occupying about 1/3 of the tanks length and about 2/3 of its width. The area around the heater has a temp of between 90-95F, and the cool side is about 80-85. but it has only been in place a few hours. The temp of the room its in is about 75f. Is this a decent set up ?

at night i also have the original heat lamp i was using with a night bulb suspended above the aquarium, its on a 12 hour cycle, turns on at 8pm, off at 8 am. is this a bad idea? i dont think its low wnough to mess with the temps
