Big color change!

Hello.
I was VERY surprised to see such a drastic change in one molt.
Here is my little L.parahybana, which last week was the typical spiderling grey, all drab....now look at him!
Jet black, with the pinkish long hairs and white fringe around the head! Wow! A joy to look at! The story of the ugly duckling comes to mind....

Very cool! Is that peat moss you're keeping him on? And sorry for my obvious inexperience with T's, but what species is that? Tres cool.

Very nice parahybana. I've currently got 10 of these (down from a total of 15) and am shipping off 7 slings tomorrow. 3 is a nice number LOL.

Hello.
Thank you. The picture does not do this guy justice, he is REALLY pretty, I'm so pleasantly surprised.
3 is a very nice number, especially when you consider these grow as large as Goliaths! That's a lot of food....

I keep all mine on straight peat moss, except the Goliath who has a mix of potting soil and peat. I don't like it at all, so she's getting straight peat when I get her a new aquarium.
All the arboreals have no substrate at all, just a piece of bark glue gunned to the wall. I mist the walls and the bark too to raise the humidity a tad. Cleaning is easy because the dried up boluses just roll out the door!
When my order comes in next week, I will have 23 T's and 2 scorps. Their care is so easy that you get mucho entertainment for your time.
I simply cannot believe more people don't keep them as pets. They are ideal. Low maintenance, low space requirements, low expense, and they come in all colors. Wheeeee!

From what I have read, its a hands off species. They get huge.
My particular para is jittery, but not nearly so sensitive as say, the Usumbara baboon. If you exhale too hard, the Usumbara zips back in its hole. Luckily, it soon comes back out and displays itself quite often. The Usumbara is a very pretty bright orange. But a real scaredy cat.
The para will jump and run two steps at every disturbance, but doesn't go far. He is usually out in the open. Actually, I think he is always hungry....he jumps for the water dripping to top off his dish. I don't want to try holding him, he seems to think everything is food.
The Brachys are docile and sweet, unless they sense a cricket. Then they are fast!

Cool! Thanks for all the info! I'm just doing my research, as I'm looking for more docile species to add to my collection. I'm very addicted to t's, but, Invictus and I came to the agreement, that I could only get the docile ones, in the event they should escape, etc. I'm really interested in the A. Versicolor, have you had any experiences with these?

I have found my parahybana to be very docile. Although we do not handle our T's. It's always out and about and I can easily do cage spot cleaning, water changes, etc without it even moving. Mine also went through an amazing change from sling to adult:

Yeah, I have one versicolor sling. I got it along with a couple A.avics, one A.geroldi and an A.metallica. The versi is the only one of the bunch that is extremely skittish. In fact, I named it Jet.
Recently, I took each spider out of its home, and washed the insides out and cleaned the bark and put it back together. (As they are growing, their old tube webs no longer fit them and fall apart and look ugly). Jet was the only one that gave me problems. He wouldn't leave his web and grabbed and bit the prod stick I was using and kept going back in. I finally evicted him, but I was glad I didn't use my fingers.
All the others politely walked onto my hand and where I wanted them to go. They were very cute.

This is only one specimen of versi, it could be he is a freak. Others who have had more could better answer if most of them are nice or not. (Martin....yoohoo....)
Jet has awesome colors though!
