It never hurts to contact your local humane society / SPCA / pound as they inevitably get some.
Wether they adopt them out is another issue. Some don't bother, I should say most actually. But if you call or visit them with your interest, I'm sure they would be happy to relocate one with you if you show them that you are knowlegeable and serious about adopting one in need of a good home.
There are also reptile rescues in Canada. I can't remember the exact link off the top of my head but if you do a seach on Google you will find them.
